The Original Tantra, Part 2

Here’s a second part of the article The Original Tantra. It’s a guest blog by a friend of mine, Anssi Pitkänen and I have translated the article from Finnish.

As you can see, the so-called “neo-tantra” does not have much to do with the origins of tantra. If you would like to read about how the development happened, here’s a great article about tantric sex just for that.

Whenever we research a philosophy different from our own, we need to review our fundamental ideas about reality. The entire framework that directs our thinking needs to be put under scrutiny. Many religions are “meta-narratives”, stories about the world, which dictate what kind of stories we create for ourselves when we are in this world.

Meta-narratives can correspond to reality for better or worse, but their great value lies in the fact they also touch the question: What kind of world do we wish to create for ourselves? Read more

The Original Tantra

This is a guest blog by a friend of mine, Anssi Pitkänen. Anssi has a great analytical mind and I admire his ability to coherently express complex topics. This text is an article he wrote about the book Tantra Illuminated by Christopher Wallis and ideas behind it, and I have translated the article from Finnish.

The article is quite long, so I will divide it into several shorter pieces so that we have time to assimilate all the information. This first part is an introduction to the entire article and the idea of Non-dualistic Shaiva Tantra.

I wanted to add this article to the blog, because through it we can explore the philosophy of tantra. It helps us to widen our understanding of tantra as a way of life and a spiritual path. Read more

The spring is soon knocking on the door on the northern hemisphere, sun is shining more and days are getting longer. This is naturally bringing us to the point where it is nice to dust off the winter and welcome the warmer part of the year. I personally notice that I start to crave different kinds of greens and sprouts in the spring and warmer and sunny days feel very uplifting for my mind.

In this article I am going to describe some of the best detox and cleanse methods in a tantric yogic way. The methods I will describe here belong – mostly – to the yoga kriyas. Read more

What I have learned through tantra – My personal story

I’m Aoi, I’ve been work as a tantra massage goddess and teacher for 3 years now, today I got invited by Mark from Tantric Massage Guide to share some of my experience with Tantra. In this article, I would like to share some of the insights and things that I have personally learned through my tantra journey so far. It is very personal, and I hope it can serve as an inspiration if you are looking to start the tantric path.

My own tantric journey started already in late 2015, when I first joined a weekend course by Shanti Limnell in Finland. That weekend course was an eye-opener, and thus I started learning more about tantra – mainly from the point of tantric sexuality. A bit later I met a woman who was not able to receive anything related to tantra, so the idea stayed dormant for next coming years. When that non-tantric relationship ended, I was more than ready to embark on the tantric journey. Read more

What Is Tantric Sex, Part TWO

Follow my last article about tantric sex <What is tantric sex>, here is the secound part of it.

Taki’h has an excellent and thorough program called Intimacy Journey. It consists of four parts: Emotional, Physical, Sexual and Soul Intimacy. We did the Emotional Journey in May, and now it was time for the Physical Journey. It was an interesting journey indeed, with deep depths and great heights, and Taki’h skillfully helped us to navigate through it all.

If you have read other articles from this blog, you probably have noticed that roughly there are two kinds of tantra: the traditional and original tantra, and then there’s the contemporary version of it, sometimes called neo-tantra. Tantric sex and sexuality mostly belong to the category of neo-tantra. I say mostly, because there are certain elements that conjoins these two worlds together.

Make sure you read the first part of the article first, to get an overview and understanding where all this is coming from.

Here are Taki’h’s practical instructions on how to bring the sacred into your relation. I’m sure you can feel her inspiration through these words!

What is Tantric Sex? PART ONE

This article is divided to two parts. The first part is about the background of Tantric Sex, and the second part is how to bring this to practice. Enjoy!

When my friend Simo asked me to write an article on “Tantric Sex” I thought to myself: “Wow, where do I begin? It’s such a huge subject!” To understand what is Tantric Sex we must first understand what is Tantra. There is a lot that can be said about Tantra at the philosophical and esoteric levels.

At the practical level, Tantra is a life path, a system, which uses the apparent reality of duality to reach full awakening. So we enter into polarities in order to go beyond them and know one-ness, wholeness. Tantra uses three pillars: consciousness (masculine energy), love (feminine energy) and sacredness (neither masculine nor feminine). By applying these pillars to any situation, including sexuality, we have the possibility to heal, expand, transform, transcend. Read more

Neo Tantra

Tantra vs. Neo-Tantra

Today we invited Yoyo from Secret Massage to share some of her experience in Tantra, Neo-Tantra and tantric massage.

When I first started with tantra, it was just one big blurry concept for me. Some years later I realized that there are more flavors to it, and I now have my feet in two worlds, traditional tantra and neo-tantra. I’m passing on what I’ve learned in my neo-tantric training in Finland and now I’m learning traditional tantra and tantric yoga to deepen my practice.

Tantra and neo-tantra are broad topics, and it’s not easy to describe them. Some say tantra is a “spiritual science,” and some call it a philosophy or even a religion. There are many translations of the word tantra and perhaps the most common one is that tantra is a weave, making everything interconnected, an underlying structure of All That Is. Yet another common interpretation for the word tantra is to expand and liberate. Literally, tantra means a theory, doctrine or book, such as well known Vijnana Bhairava Tantra.

Neo-tantra is also known as tantric sexuality or sacred sexuality. But is there really such a thing as tantric sexuality, or is it just a big misunderstanding?

For the sake of clarity, I will use “tantra” for the traditional or classical tantra, and “neo-tantra” for sacred or tantric sexuality. Read more

Who Is Osho?

Osho, also known as Rajneesh or Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, was an Indian mystic and a spiritual master who had a big influence on the sexual tantra movement all around the world. He’s known for his controversial talks and strong statements about topics that many consider taboos.

I wanted to write something about him, but I did not quite know where to start. I have read some of his books, but I couldn’t quite grasp the ideas – as they seemed controversial to me.

Last weekend I attended a couples’ tantra workshop with Hariprem and Kaulika. They are both Osho Sannyasins and Hariprem has been living in Osho’s ashram when Osho was still alive. I got the idea to ask Hariprem and Kaulika what kind of person Osho was, and what he meant to them. Read more
